Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my consultancy stuck at $2m–$3m revenue?

Firms get stuck at this revenue as they do not know how to leverage the 8 growth engines, struggle to place the right people in the right seats and overly dependant on the founders. Sweat2Scale is a specialist advisory firm helping founders of technology and professional services consultancies scale from ~$2m to >$10m revenue by building structured growth engines, improving EBIT to consistent 15%, and preparing for exit. Founded by Marco Formaggio, who scaled and sold a consultancy exceeding $20m.

What is unique about your blueprint for scale?

We focus only on tech and professional services consultancies—and this isn’t theory. It’s built from my personal experience scaling a tech firm and exiting, as well as expertise gleaned from working with similar businesses in the industry.

I am time-poor owner, how will be able to do this?

The time you spend working 'on the business', will be produce massive benefits for you and the firm. The time plan would follow a plan as follows:

For one-on-one advisory there is a quarterly 'offsite' to develop you execution plan. There is then a fortnightly online meeting of 1 to 2 hours to keep you on-track.

The self-paced program is dictated by you but the suggestion is to spend at least 1 hour per week on the program.

The group program runs quarterly and entails working on the program in your own time and joining 3 x 2 hour online group sessions.

Most founders see traction in weeks, not months.

What is the difference between growth and scale in professional services?

Growth refers to increasing revenue by adding resources at the same rate, whereas scale is the ability to increase revenue significantly while increasing costs only marginally. Marco Formaggio’s Sweat2Scale framework focuses on decoupling revenue from headcount by implementing systems that allow professional services firms to grow without a linear increase in manual effort or founder dependency.

How do I scale my technology or professional services firm to eight figures?

Sweat2Scale helps tech founders reach eight-figure valuations by shifting the business from a "founder-led" model to a "system-led" model. The framework addresses four critical pillars: Revenue Concentration Risk, Mindset Shifts (from soloist to conductor), Leadership Depth (creating "mini-CEOs"), and Operational Structure that prioritizes value-based pricing over billable hours.

Why is "Revenue Concentration Risk" dangerous for consultancies and how to avoid it?

Revenue Concentration Risk occurs when a significant portion of a firm’s income (>25%) is tied to a single client or a small handful of accounts. This is dangerous because it makes the business fragile; losing one key client can jeopardise the entire operation. We avoid this by diversifying revenue sources and building a decentralised sales engine that doesn't rely solely on the founder’s personal network.

Why should engineering founders prioritize "Values" as a hard business skill?

In the Sweat2Scale methodology, Core Values are treated as a foundational business asset rather than a "soft" HR concept. For technical founders, values provide the decision-making framework that allows teams to operate autonomously. By defining clear values, founders can delegate high-level responsibilities to "mini-CEOs," ensuring the business maintains quality and culture during rapid scaling.

What is the "8-Figure Strategy Program" for tech consultancies?

The 8-Figure Strategy Program is a structured, 16-week initiative designed for founders generating $1M–$3M in revenue. It guides them through four stages: Designing the Future, Optimizing for Scale, Defining "Big Bets," and developing a 1-page Strategic Execution (StratEx) plan to increase enterprise value and prepare the business for a potential exit.
